The purpose of the Planning and Zoning Department is to provide services and code enforcement to the citizens of the county by assuring that provisions of the County Building and Zoning Ordinances, state law and other life safety codes are met by both new and existing constructions.

Program Description

Building Division: Responsible for safeguarding public health, safety and welfare in the building environment of the adopted codes by the County and Idaho Statutes as they apply to the construction of building and related structures. This is accomplished by a staff of 3.5 including the Building Official / Chief Plans Examiner, two Building Inspectors and the Management Assistant (this position is shared with the Planning Division.)

Planning/Code Enforcement Division: Prepares, monitors and implements the County's Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance including compliance review, zone changes, special use, variance and code enforcement. This division also oversees code enforcement of land use regulations within the County. These functions are accomplished by a staff of 2.5 including the Planning & Development Director / Department Head, the Assistant Zoning Administrator/GIS and the Management Assistant. (this position is shared with the Building Division.

Economic Development Division: Works to improve the economic
well-being of our County through efforts that entail job creation, job retention, tax base enhancements and quality of life.

The Bingham County Planning & Zoning Department has implimented a new building permitting software for the issuance of building permits.
