With a diverse base of responsibilities, the Clerk's office is at the hub of county government serving both the public and other county departments.
Services we provide to the public are the recording and maintaining of documents relating to property, issuance of marriage licenses, processing applications for passports, voter registration and conducting county elections.
Within county government, all funds received are accounted for and expended through the auditor's office, including payroll. The county budget begins with the auditor, who receives budget requests and prepares a proposed budget for the commissioners' approval and calculates the property tax levy.
As the Clerk of the District Court, our office provides support to the courts. Deputy court clerks manage all civil and criminal cases presided over by Magistrate and District Court judges.
In the clerk's capacity as Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, our office is charged with the responsibility of taking minutes of all Commissioner proceedings, keeping copies of all contracts, resolutions and ordinances signed by the Commissioners and maintaining their daily agenda. Under this responsibility, the clerk is also responsible for taking applications for indigent services, investigating the applications and making recommendations to the Commissioners to deny or approve the same.
